Impersonating Stars
Some stars are considerably easier to impersonate than others. However, this is in no way, shape, or form, implying that specifically impersonating stars is easy. Depending upon who the impersonation is of, will dictate how hard the task will be. The hardest part by far is the ability to resemble the star themselves. Not everyone has this special quality.
However, there are some impersonations that do not necessarily have the need for the certain look. These are the action impersonations and they too can be quite good. For example, the “Three Stooges” were know for both their looks as well as their slapstick comedy routine. Therefore, many of these specific and member related routines are so widely known that when either someone does or sees these impersonations, they understand the meaning or concept immediately and know exactly where it came from.
These are probably the easier impersonations to perform. Elvis can probably also be tossed into this way of thinking. By simply saying “ Thank-you Thank-you very much” in that Elvis style will probably also give similar results. These are those part-timers that attempt to do these impersonations while generally out with friends on a night on the town. These will usually be an attempt at the humor aspect of the improvisation too. But, there are also those impersonators who take on the complete persona of the person.
Some of the best of these improvisational masters are the singing crooners such as Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra. In these cases, not only do they sound just like the late performers, they also move and act just as the late person had. Many times, performers such as these can be found in places such as the casinos of Las Vegas. This is where they attempt to keep the spirit of the celebrity alive and well for nostalgia purposes with great success.
There is even a restaurant in Los Angeles that caters and promotes impersonating stars through their use of them as waiters and waitresses. This was extensively represented in the film “Pulp Fiction.” There was everyone from Ed Sullivan to Humphrey Bogart to Jane Mansfield was represented. And, it was the actions as well as their looks that enhanced every performance.
Of course, one does not need to live in either Las Vegas or Los Angeles in order to properly impersonate. Most metropolitan areas have an agency that can utilize folks such as this and will employ them for everything from birthday parties to telegram senders to special event ceremonies and are usually a hit.
Therefore, impersonating stars can prove to be a lucrative as well as a very selective market. One must have either the moves or the looks down to an art and to have both is virtually unheard of.
